Mildenhall Win Cambridgeshire Junior Cup
A huge “good hearted” crowd came to watch Mildenhall play Sawston on Saturday. The game looked even at the start but poor first up tackling let Sawston down as Mildenhall took the lead and maintained it throughout the game. Nick the scum half and Dan F were the Sawston players of the match, while on the Mildenhall side 12, 13 and 15 all played very well and created most of the danger for Mildenhall.
Mildenhall’s pack also played well in parts, they recycled the ball well and supported quickly and in numbers, I also thought that the scrum half they had in the first half played exceptionally well, he made well timed passes and had several good attacks (two of which led to tries). I was quite shocked to see him withdrawn at half time.
We looked stronger in the tackle late on when Martin, Woody and Wayne were on the field, but it was all a bit late and Mildenhall held on for the win. Top performer of the day however was the Referee “young” Tony Kennedy. The Sawston twos skipper was reported to have said “give him a few years and if he works at his game, he could probably make it to a high standard of Rugby”
I have three moments of the match.
1) Sam Dean being clean through and dropping the ball 2) Sam Dean being tackled and “touched” By Chris Shaw 3) Vipers being substituted – that always makes me giggle
Unlucky to Wilf and the boys for Saturday and congratulations to Mildenhall on the cup win.
As this is the last report of the season I’d just like to thank all the people who have worked the bar, cleaned the club house, cleaned the kit, done the coaching, done the accounts, done the cooking, collected match fees/ money, Wilf for not stealing too many players, Jurgen and Nick Y for being really good vice captains and finally Sam Dean for making Saturday really very funny.
The club dinner is on Saturday 6.30 start at the clubhouse. Black tie for men and slutty dresses for the girls (only the good looking ones please). Tickets are available on the door @ £20
Have a great summer….. Cheers Bob
