Sawston v Cambridge 35 - 41
|
Saturday saw a Sawston 2’s taking on the experienced Cambridge Exiles on a cold but bright Saturday. With them being second in the table we were expecting a tough match. Playing down the hill in the first half we played well with our inexperienced scrum holding it’s own against a good Cambridge scrum. Will was making some good breaks from 8 but unfortunately about twenty minutes in he succumbed to injury. Cambridge put on a couple of tries in the first half but just before the end of the half a great effort by nick put us over for our first score just before the break with Mark P converting. We came back for the second half with the momentum and a brilliant run capped of Tony with his first try for the club and Tom G going over for his first for the day we had taken the lead but Cambridge being the quality side they are weren’t going to be easily shaken and they hit back with a couple of tries Mark J dodged and weaved from the half way line to score arguably the try of the game with Mark P keeping his hundred percent record with a great conversion Cambridge then put a couple more on us but then Tom G stepped up once more to cap of a sparkling game for himself with another awesome try. With us only one point down we really felt an upset coming on but in the end Cambridge were able to score again finishing the game 35 -41. It was a great game, played at very high tempo and in very good spirits, credit should be given to the ref for this. Our two props Tris and Olly fought manfully all day, Mark Ps conversions really kept us in it and Fraser had a great game stepping into outside centre, but it really was a great team effort and we can look forward to the cup quarter final with great confidence if we can take this form into it.
Tries: Nick Y, Tony, Tom G, 2, Mark J
Conversions: Mark P, 5
Team: Tris, Dave, Olly, Nudger, Lewis, Glenn, Will, Tom R, Mark P, Nick, Tony, Tom, Fraser, James, Skip,
Subs: Mark J on for Will
