Datchworth Double

Sawston V Datchworth II’s

13th February 2010

As usual I didn’t want to let the fact that I wasn’t there stop me from writing a match report. Especially when we’ve won. Apart from publicising the good result I also don’t like to miss the opportunity to write a load of bollocks on the Internet!

Despite Englands lacklustre performance against Italy on Sunday, one good thing came from the game. The commentator kindly directed me to the Craig Gower Wikipedia page to read about his drunken behaviour. If you haven’t already read this it is well worth a look. Francois is undoubtedly a liability when drunk, when he’s not drop kicking bottles at bouncers or slapping Green Beret’s in the face, he is being banned from pretty much every pub in Cambridge. Even he has got nothing on Craig Gower though. Check out the “Controversy” section at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Craig_Gower

The final score of Sawston V Datchworth II’s was 24-6, which as far as I can remember is one of the biggest victories we have ever had against them. I understand from those that were there that this score-line flatters us a little, but it is still a great result. To do the home and away double against a very strong and competitive side like Datchworth is a great achievement. Especially as for the 4th time in 5 games we didn’t concede a try. They say familiarity breeds contempt but we now must look forward to playing them again in a few weeks in the Green King Cup competition.

The result has temporarily put us joint top of the league. With the Old Albanians thrashing of Shelford (49-8) still to be recorded, the website shows the latest standings and results http://www.greenekingrugby.co.uk/results/Supremresults.htm

Finally, this Saturday is a huge game against Old Albanians at home. It is the top of the table clash so I urge as many players as possible to attend training on Thursday and as many supporters as possible to come along on Saturday.
