Robin Saves the Day

Sawston 22 v Cottenham Renegades 36
Sawston took on Cottenham at home in another try fest of a game for the home side. The ref got stuck in a traffic jam on the A14 but thankfully Sawston’s rugby Renaissance man Robin was able to come to the rescue and refereed extremely well with no complaints from either side. With a lot of our regulars out it was going to be a tough game against a good Cottenham side. We started the game slowly with Cottenham getting the early try but we fought back with a brilliant solo run by Joe which he finished with a try. Minutes later there was a brilliant interception by prop Pete on the half way line with no need to pass he flew like a winger and scored under the post meaning he must be one of the top try scorers this season for the club. We were on top at this time but silly little mistakes were letting Cottenham of the hook and they scored going into the break. We knew we had a chance with our scrum dominating. We came out with the wind at our backs and with the centres of Sam and H were starting to make some good moves at the back. Cottenham broke through to score but Mark P struck back with a great drop goal from some distance this being his second of the season ruining the 2nds record of not being able to score drop goals. Unfortunately after sustained pressure on our defence Cottenham broke through for another try. We hit back again with a greats back move that got out to James Dean who skinned his opponents and passed of to brother who finished under the posts. In the end though we were over run by Cottenham who put a couple more tries on us.
Captains Corner A good performance shows we can mix it with the top sides in our league but we just have to stop doing silly mistakes and not panicking. Our scrummaging and line outs were top class Henry doing a great job as jumper. Joe had a brilliant game on the flank. Many thanks must go to Ben and Sam Dean for playing for us. Tom Foxall and Lewis also had excellent games. Thanks again to Robin for Refereeing for us. It would be great if as many of you as possible can make it to training on Tuesday and Thursday at 7.30pm because we have a big semi final that has been rearranged for the 20th at home against St Neots.
