The Try Fest

Sawston 36 - Shelford 43

It was an emotional match for the spectators on the windy "Sawston Slope" last weekend.

Two good teams were on display in what has to be the most topsey turvey game ever played at Sawston.

Poor tackling saw shelford go ahead early on, only to see both Sawston and Shelford backs exchange tries through the rest of the half. there was some fantastic movement, lines and off loading from both sides throughout the match.

Shelford looked like they'd won it with 10 minutes to go when they were 19 points up, only for Sawston to pull back two quick tries to leave us 7 points down with 4 minutes to play.

Sawston attacked with a massive last effort only to be denied under the posts by a last minute tackle on Full Back Paul "Whizzy" wise.

Most Shelford players didn't even realise they had won at the full time whistle in what was a fun match to play in.

Sawston Scorers were Wayne, Nick Y, P "Whizzy" Wise, Mark Jarvis and Martin. 4 conversions and a penalty from Ben Dean.

Man of the match
Sawston - Wayne Grantham
Shelford - Lee "fatty fat fat fat boy"

The Game was well refereed (especially with all the on the floor cheating from both sides) by Mike Flitton

Awesomely handsome second team skipper Bob Tidswell later said

"It was disappointing not to win today but most of the lads enjoyed it, we lost several players on saturday morning, so i had to put people out of position which didn't help us. Our first up tackling and poor positioning also let us down. I was also very disappointed with regular line out Jumper Theo - He was about 40 miles away from all of Toms throw ins...disasterous!!!

I also have to commend Sean - he took a knee to the head, one to the jaw and a futher smack on the nose in seperate incidents in the first twenty minutes and still made it through the game. I got a bit of an Owie on my finger but hope that I'll be fit for the weekend.

On the bright side we have scored 36 points today and not played to our full potential - There will be some hard pre season training in the pub before the start of next year.

On a more serious note: I also like that several players are pissed off about not winning, we are getting used to winning matches and we no longer accept defeat easily"

Next weeks saga "the Cantabs away game" and can Glen finally get the try he's been looking for???
