Cantabs 18 Sawston 2nds 10
|
It was too early in the morning to play rugby (1.30 on a Saturday is breakfast time). The Sawston squad dutifully turned up at Cantabs to play the thirds and some seconds and a first team scrum half, although it was a relief to see several talented on the side line without kit. anyhow we had Wilf to save us.
We went to work from the kick off this week. Cantabs had to resort to penalty kicks (well taken to be fair) to go six nil up before we came back with a Sean O’Connor special try.
Cantabs were solid in defence and moved the ball nicely for a try in each half, Sawston responded late on with a second try from Youthful Nick Yeoman’s.
Pulchritudinous captain Bob Tidswell later stated “It was great to be able to hold a good Cantabs team that close and we had our chances to win the game. The pack were excellent today, we controlled the scrum and won good line out ball. We put in a much better performance than the England team played later in the same day – although we did have the Welsh and America helping us out!!”
Glen Allen again failed to score a try..... Next week we'll be having a whip round to buy him one..
Next week sees the second team travel to St Ives for a rematch with the VETS side. We’ll keep you posted on meet times etc.
