The results are in from the AGM
We have a new Chairman, Bar manager(s), Secretary, Chair of the VP’s, Vice Chairman, are looking for a new Treasurer
The AGM happened on Thursday last week with the following taking immediate effect.
Treasurer Billy Wilson has sadly resigned his post as Treasurer of the club after several millennia in charge. Billy took over the position just after the dinosaurs died off, has seen the club through invasion, civil wars, depressions and even women getting the vote. He has, in the period that I have been at the club, been a voice of sense in meetings where others loose the plot and a great chap to have a few pints with. He will continue to run the accounts until a suitable replacement has been trained.
The club are looking for a replacement for this position. The person doesn’t need to be an accountant but needs to know a bit about numbers. If you are interested please let us know.
Chair of the VP’s has been taken over by club favourite Rene Genillard (Toms “Rene” dad for those that don’t know him or are slightly confused) Rene senior was a legendary second row several years back and does a fantastic John Cleese impression.
Bar Manager(s) Steve Jarvis is stepping aside after running the bar for many years; in fact he’s actually built the last three bars! Steve has an appreciation of a great pint which we have all enjoyed on many occasions and over the last two has made the most of the guest beers available from Everards. Summer lightning, Tiger, Doom Bar have all given me spanking headaches over the years. For those of you that don’t know what goes into the running of the bar, Steve has been at the club 4 times a week, every week during the season, cleaning pipes, racking the barrels, ordering stock and looking after the most important asset of any Rugby club. Cheers Mr Jarvis.
Wayne Grantham and Glen are going to train as replacements over the coming months and may require a little help. Volunteer if you want to help them out.
Training Dude Alan Alan has agreed to stick around for another season. Those of you that were present at the club dinner will probably remember that he wasn’t remembered in the thank you speeches. Alan or “Big Gay Al” as he is lovingly referred to has worked exceptionally hard under the most difficult of circumstance. As has always been the case it is very difficult to plan training sessions when you have no idea how many will turn out each evening. Injuries, sickness, too cold, too hot, the wife wont let me, I’m in the pub, I’m back in the pub, my leg fell off, my new body piercing hurts, I’ll only go if there is a game on sat, I live too far away, I’m too old, Binky the clown is coming to my kids birthday, my neck is broken (well ok we can accept that one) are just some of the excuses used to avoid his sessions. The truth is that if you do turn up and train you will learn from him, you will get fitter, you’ll contribute more on the pitch and you’ll enjoy it much more. It doesn’t stop there with Al is a great organiser off the pitch, cooking, working the bar and has vowed to make everyone pay their subs this year. Thanks to Al for last year and for keeping going for another season.
Pippa has finished as Secretary to go and have babies, she has done a great job of controlling us over the last few years and it was great to see her having a last rant at vipers and co. for talking during the AGM she would have made a great headmistress. Mrs Cowan is taking over from her fro the coming season.
We have a new Club Chairman in Mike Tapson, he won the vote over Bob Tidswell in a race to take this position. Bob is now the Vice Chairman and, after subsequently finding out that this has nothing to do with any real kind of vice, is looking forward to taking over from Mike as soon as he resigns or suffers from an untimely accident (Wednesday the 11th of June is pencilled in for this – Bob’s mafia contacts have been informed).
Captains remain the same as last year Wilf and Bob are both looking forward for another season in charge of their respective teams. Fixture Secretary will continue to be James Herbert who will continue his hard work in this very important role.
President Martin Tomlinson stays in this role – for those of you that don’t know what this position involves please feel free to ask him, other than the occasional over reaction to an incident and the make up of the popular “gay” calendar I haven’t a clue what this job entails.
Hopefully this year will see some forward movement at the club. For the past two years the financial position has remained nearly static and not in a good way. As players we need to pay our way (Annual subscriptions and match fees) Annual subscriptions start are £50 for the season and match fees are £6.00 home game and £5.00 for away games, half price for students and the unemployed. Annual subscriptions are returned if you bring in a new player that plays 5 games or more.
We also need to support our events a lot more (bond night, quiz night and annual dinner last year), they are always greatly enjoyed by those that are present but are never sell outs. We don’t have many so get your arses to the club when they are on.
There will also be compulsory drinking nights. You will be informed when they are on.
Pre season training starts on July 17th. Be there.
