-- Mark Little --

Lardy is only famous for one thing: his ludicrous dummy pass to no one. The bizarre thing is that opposition players always fall for it (but only once).

Once you've seen it happen a few times though you can spot the signs that it's about to happen again. Lardy catches the ball at fullback. There's no support. Noone's dropping back to help him. He's way too fat to run it back. The opposition winger is bearing down on him. So, he plants his foot, swings his arms outrageously, and starts the "pass". The unwitting winger is mesmerised by this slow motion piece of theatre and follows the ball in Lardy's hands until all of a sudden Lardy snaps it back and the winger flies past in a cloud of confusion. Then Lardy, seeing the open space in front of him, accelerates to his maximium pace and two paces later the winger has turned round and caught him. Lardy is tackled, refuses to let go of the ball and concedes a penalty try.
